Google Maps Unveils AI-Powered Features Tailored for Indian Users

Google Maps has introduced a range of AI-powered updates tailored to Indian users. These features aim to enhance navigation, safety, and convenience, utilising the Gemini model and data from over 35 million places across India. The rollout begins this week on Android and iOS devices.

Key updates include hands-free conversational navigation, allowing users to interact naturally with the app. Local tips summarised by Gemini provide insights into nearby places, while users can now ask Maps specific questions for instant answers.

Safety features include accident-prone area alerts and speed limit displays. Users will also receive traffic disruption notifications and updates on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) highways, thanks to a cooperation with an unspecified partner.

For two-wheeler users, custom navatars are now available, along with enhanced flyover voice guidance. Additionally, metro ticket integration with Google Wallet offers seamless payment options.

These India-first updates from Google Maps leverage AI to provide a more intuitive, safe, and tailored navigation experience. The rollout begins this week, with more features becoming available over the coming weeks on both Android and iOS devices.
