Google Ads API: New Conversion Goal Configurations Coming Nov 17
Google has announced changes to how customer conversion goals are automatically configured when developers create new conversion actions through the Google Ads API. The modifications aim to optimise bidding performance and will come into effect on November 17, 2025.
Previously, newly created goals were set as account-default by default, which could lead to suboptimal campaign performance. Under the new configuration, a goal will only be set as account-default if all other goals within the same category are also account-default. This change does not affect existing conversion goals created before the specified date.
To ensure newly created goals are account-default after the change, developers must manually set the CustomerConversionGoal.biddable field to true. This update is part of Google's accelerated API development, with the company shifting to monthly releases starting January 2026. Developers and agencies managing conversion tracking across multiple clients will need to adjust their workflows.
The changes address a technical inefficiency in Google Ads' automation systems and are set to improve campaign performance. Developers should stay informed about the upcoming modifications and adapt their practices accordingly.
