Google acquires AppSheet to boost no-code app development in Cloud
Google has acquired AppSheet, a no-code platform that helps users build mobile and web apps without traditional coding. The deal brings a team of around 50 employees into Google Cloud. Founded in 2014, AppSheet has already enabled over 18,000 creators to deploy roughly 200,000 apps worldwide.
AppSheet was launched by Praveen Seshadri and Brian Sabino in 2014. The company secured seed funding from New Enterprise Associates a year later. By 2018, it had earned recognition as an innovative tech startup from TiE, and in 2019, Forrester Research named it a leader in low-code app development.
The platform specialises in data capture, team collaboration, and visual display, using declarative programming to simplify app creation. Its tools allow businesses to automate workflows and build custom solutions quickly. Before the acquisition, AppSheet supported iOS, web, and mobility applications for a wide range of clients. With the takeover, Google plans to integrate AppSheet's technology into Google Cloud. Amit Zavery, vice president of Google Cloud, stated that the move will help businesses accelerate innovation through workflow automation and app development. The AppSheet team will remain focused on serving existing customers while expanding their services under Google's infrastructure.
The acquisition adds AppSheet's no-code capabilities to Google's cloud offerings. Existing users will continue receiving support for their apps, including iOS and web-based solutions. The deal also strengthens Google's position in the growing market for low-code and no-code development tools.
