Golfer's tournament slated for Donald Trump's golf course in Scotland
In an exciting twist, the UK's very own Trump-branded golf course is set to host a significant event this summer, sparking whispers that the infamous US President might just claw his way back into Britain's golfing sphere.
Following pressure to deny any attempts to bring the iconic Open Championship to Turnberry, owned by an organization tied to the sitting President, the UK government has vehemently denied any meddling.
This year, the Scottish Championship will unfurl its green at none other than the Trump International Golf Links Scotland in Aberdeenshire come August. With a $2.75m prize, the tournament hopes to entice the crème de la crème of the DP World Tour, representing a much-needed lift for Trump, who nearly faced exile from the ranks of the golfing fraternity post the 6 January Washington DC riots during his first term in the White House.
Eric Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organisation, couldn't hide his pride, stating, "We're thrilled to host the Scottish Championship on the DP World Tour at our iconic property... 2025 marks an incredible year for Trump International, Scotland, as we eagerly welcome two world-class tournaments and excitedly anticipate the grand opening of our new championship links course."
Just a week prior to the Scottish Championship, the Trump links course will host the PGA Seniors Championship, opening fresh doors for the President's Turnberry course.
There's a glimmer of hope for the classic Open major at Trump Turnberry, once deemed one of the UK's finest courses. Recently, R&A chief executive Mark Darbon expressed, "We're diving into some feasibility work around what it would entail to return to that venue and the investment required... at some point, we'd love to return there. But there are some challenges around the road and rail network, some of the accommodation provision, and we're working on a potential model for the future."
This year's Open is playing out at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, but keep your eyes peeled for a possible 2028 turn at Trump Turnberry. Could the President swing back onto the world's golfing stage? Only time will tell.
The Scottish Championship, scheduled for August, will take place at Trump International Golf Links Scotland, a property owned by The Trump Organization. In August, the PGA Seniors Championship is also set to be held at the same venue, potentially opening more opportunities for the Turnberry course.
