Golfer Matthieu Pavon Executes Leap at PGA Championship Event
French Golfer Shines at 2025 PGA Championship
Matthieu Pavon, the 32-year-old golf phenom from Bordeaux, stunned spectators at the 2025 PGA Championship in Charlotte, USA. This Major tournament, equivalent to Grand Slam tournaments in tennis, took place from May 15-18. Pavon's performance felt like a breath of fresh air for the golfing world, given his impressive win on the American circuit in 2024 but a rocky start to the season.
On the Quail Hollow course in North Carolina, Pavon showcased a solid game on Friday, carding a 65. With six birdies, Pavon's putter was on fire, giving him the confidence needed to dominate the course. "It was damn good", Pavon declared upon returning to the clubhouse. "I had great momentum with the putter from the get-go. A few birdies on the first nine holes gave me the confidence for the rest. Altogether, it was a truly satisfying day."
As of the third round, Pavon finds himself sitting second in the tournament, two strokes behind the surprising leader, Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas (-8). He shares the second spot with Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and South Korean Kim Si-woo. Kim made headlines by making a hole-in-one on the challenging sixth hole, a par 3 of 230 meters, a record for this competition. "I hit it exactly how I wanted, so it was cool and it was a memorable hole-in-one in a Major", Kim reflected.
Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, winner of the first Major of the season, the Masters of Augusta, in April, and the defending champion, American Xander Schauffele, struggled to make the cut with a total card of 143, one stroke above par. McIlroy's game fluctuated, with three birdies in the first eight holes and four bogeys in the last eight.
American Scott Scheffler, the current world number 1 and Olympic champion, is hot on Vegas' heels, trailing by just three strokes. Unfortunately, the other French player qualified for the tournament, Victor Perez, failed to make the cut.
Pavon's remarkable run at the 2025 PGA Championship can be attributed to his exceptional third-round play, which has placed him competitively in the tournament. In this round, he achieved the best round ever by a French player at a Major Championship, shooting a bogey-free 65 at Quail Hollow. His performance included six birdies, securing his place among the leaders.
After a challenging start to the season, Matthieu Pavon, the French golfer, demonstrated his prowess on the green at the 2025 PGA Championship, setting a record for the best round ever by a French player at a Major Championship with a bogey-free 65, featuring six birdies. Meanwhile, the current world number 1, American Scott Scheffler, is closely trailing the leader, Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas, hoping to catch up.
