Collin Morikawa made a significant change to his team ahead of the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, partnering with Mark Urbanek, the former longtime caddie for Tony Finau. Urbanek and Finau had a five-year partnership that yielded five PGA Tour wins and a FedEx Cup Playoff title. However, their split reportedly happened around The Open Championship in 2025, although the exact reasons for their departure are unclear.

Morikawa has had a turbulent 2025 season with a series of caddie changes. Urbanek became his fifth different caddie that year. This comes after Morikawa ended a long-standing relationship with JJ Jakovac in April and subsequently had short stints with several other caddies. Morikawa’s search for a suitable long-term caddie reflects his desire to regain winning form after a challenging season with only three top-10 finishes and recent missed cuts.

Meanwhile, Tony Finau is in danger of missing the Tour Championship for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Finau has claimed just one top 10 in 19 starts in 2025, and Urbanek's departure coincided with this slump in Finau’s results. The reasons for Urbanek's departure from Finau's team are not clear, but the change may have been a result of Finau's poor performance.

Urbanek is regarded as a valuable and experienced caddie, with previous success alongside Finau, including a FedEx Cup Playoff title. Whether he can provide Morikawa the stability and edge needed to return to winning is still unproven but anticipated. Morikawa currently sits 19th in the FedEx Cup standings, which guarantees him a spot in the BMW Championship, and the field for the event will be trimmed down to the top 50.

Elsewhere, Matt Fitzpatrick parted ways with long-time looper Billy Foster. The exact reasons for the split are not yet known, but it may have been a mutual decision to explore new opportunities. The BMW Championship is fast approaching, and the field will be trimmed down to just 30 players for the season-ending Tour Championship. Only time will tell if the caddie changes will bring about a change in fortunes for Morikawa and Fitzpatrick.
