Golf tournament tips and predictions for the BMW Championship betting market

With attention already turning to next month's Ryder Cup, the golfing world is gearing up for the BMW Championship, the final event before the FedEx Cup reaches its climax.

The BMW Championship will see 49 players competing at Caves Valley to finish in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings and secure a place at the Tour Championship. Among these players, the predicted top favourite is Scottie Scheffler, with odds of +230 at sportsbooks like FanDuel and likely similar at Bet365 and BoyleSports. Rory McIlroy, who skipped last week's assignment in Memphis, is the second favourite at +750 as he returns to the tournament.

Other notable contenders include Xander Schauffele (+1800), Tommy Fleetwood (+2000), Ludvig Åberg (+2000), and Patrick Cantlay (+2200). At Bet365, specific odds for some players include Kurt Kitayama at 40/1 (~+4000), highlighting him as a strong outsider candidate.

Scheffler is widely considered the safe pick due to his consistent performance, while players like Cantlay and Åberg are seen as strong conservative or dark horse options. Rory McIlroy, despite not playing last week, is expected to have a strong performance at Caves Valley, where he was fourth the last time this tournament was played at the Maryland venue four years ago.

The track at Caves Valley rewards strong play off the tee, where McIlroy has always excelled, and on the greens, where he has improved immensely. McIlroy's absence last week could be seen as a relief for some observers, as Keegan Bradley, who is currently tenth in the Ryder Cup standings, failed to gain an automatic selection for the Ryder Cup with a disappointing 54th at last week's FedEx St Jude Championship.

Despite this setback, Bradley is finding his best form as we head towards the campaign's climax. He posted a Sunday 66 and has a form since winning the Travelers Championship in mid-June that reads 41-30-MC-44. Chris Gotterup, who is predicted to beat Keegan Bradley with odds of 2pts 10-11 at bet365, is having a strong finish to the campaign and is another player to watch out for at the BMW Championship.

The BMW Championship will be broadcast on Sky Sports Golf at 5pm on Thursday. The top six Americans for Bethpage Black will be determined after the BMW Championship, adding an extra layer of excitement to this already anticipated event.
