Golf tour PGA resumes play at Trump-owned venue following a ten-year break, alleges news report
Trump National Doral in Miami is set to host a PGA Tour event for the first time since 2016, marking a significant revival for one of the Tour's historic venues. The PGA Tour's return to the course comes after a nearly decade-long absence, with the Tour moving its longtime tournament away from the resort in 2016 due to several issues.
Since then, Trump Doral has played host to LIV Golf events for four consecutive seasons. However, with Trump Doral not on LIV Golf's 2026 schedule, the PGA Tour has seized the opportunity to add a new event there. The potential "Signature event" is scheduled for the week of April 27 to May 3, 2026, and falls between the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Truist Championship on the PGA Tour calendar.
The move has prompted some schedule adjustments, such as moving the CJ Cup Byron Nelson later in the season. The Charles Schwab Challenge will follow the Byron Nelson after the new event at Trump Doral. The new event at Trump Doral's TPC Blue Monster Course, where Tiger Woods won a tournament in 20xx, could potentially be the first of many returns to the venue for the PGA Tour.
The $250 million renovation of Trump Doral, which took place after Trump purchased the property in 2012 for $150 million out of bankruptcy, has no doubt contributed to its appeal for the PGA Tour. The course has a rich history, having hosted PGA events annually from 1962 to 2016, and even hosting the 2017 U.S. Women's Open, won by Sung Hyun Park.
Adam Scott was the last PGA Tour winner at Trump Doral in 2016, and the course's return to the PGA Tour calendar could see a new champion crowned in 2026. The move can also be interpreted as an olive branch to former President Donald Trump, who has been actively involved in supporting LIV Golf and commenting on the ongoing dynamics between the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and Saudi Public Investment Fund negotiations.
Notably, the 2022 PGA Championship was initially scheduled to be played at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, but was moved to Southern Hills. Despite this, Trump National Golf Club has since hosted two LIV Golf events.

- The significant revival of Trump National Doral in Miami, a venue with a long history of hosting PGA events, will see it host a PGA Tour event for the first time in six years due to its multi-million dollar renovation.
- Despite the recent LIV Golf events held at Trump Doral, the resort's TPC Blue Monster Course has played host to only sports like golf and the last PGA Tour win there was Adam Scott's in 2016, indicating a potential first triumph for a new champion in 2026.
