In the world of golf, the PGA Tour's playoff season is underway, and one of the most anticipated events, the FedEx St. Jude Classic, is taking place this week. However, one notable absence from the tournament is Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy, who is already securely positioned high enough in the FedEx Cup standings, chose to skip the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Classic. The change in the Tour Championship format, from a staggered shot-start system to a standard 72-hole stroke-play event, reduced the importance of his FedEx Cup points positions before the final two events. Thus, he opted to conserve effort for the BMW Championship and Tour Championship, where his performance would directly impact winning the FedEx Cup.

Meanwhile, the FedEx St. Jude Classic will see 69 players competing due to McIlroy's absence. Among the players are Shane Lowry, who is playing for the first time since The Open in Portrush, and Michael Kim, who qualified for the playoffs despite a poor final round at the Wyndham Championship.

Elsewhere, Cameron Young made headlines by winning the Wyndham Championship, marking the 1,000th first-time winner on the PGA Tour. Young's win propelled him to 15th on the US Ryder Cup standings. Young had registered seven runners-up finishes before his win, demonstrating his consistency and potential for future victories.

In women's golf, Lottie Woad finished in 8th place at the AIG Women's Open with a score of -4, while Jeeno Atthaya has taken over the Rolex number one spot, previously held by Nelly Korda. Miyu Yamashita, the AIG Women's Open runner-up, used a variety of equipment in the tournament, including a Srixon ZXi driver, Srixon ZX Mk II fairway woods, Srixon ZX Mk II hybrids, Srixon ZXi5 irons, Cleveland RTZ wedges, TaylorMade Spider Tour X Black L-Neck putter, and Srixon Z-Star XV Arrow ball.

The Irish Challenge at Killeen Castle in Dunsany, Co Meath, is also taking place, with 14 Irish players competing. Conor Purcell is the only Irish player in the field for the Nexo Championship on the DP World Tour.

Finally, a reminder for all golfers: the ruling in stroke play for having more than 14 clubs in a bag is a penalty of two strokes on the hole just completed. Always make sure to keep your bag within the regulations!

Sports enthusiasts may find it intriguing that Rory McIlroy, despite his involvement in the PGA Tour's playoff season, decided to skip the FedEx St. Jude Classic, choosing instead to focus on the BMW Championship and Tour Championship, where his performance significantly impacts his pursuit of the FedEx Cup. Meanwhile, the FedEx St. Jude Classic will feature 69 players as a result of McIlroy's absence, with the likes of Shane Lowry and Michael Kim participating in the tournament.
