Golf professionals Rory McIlroy and Harry Diamond set off for Spain, eager to witness the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion, has recently completed the career Grand Slam and is now focusing on his upcoming tournament schedule. After a successful stint at the Charles Schwab Challenge and the DP World India Championship, McIlroy has announced his plans for the rest of the year.
The Northern Irish golfer's schedule for 2025 includes several key PGA and DP World Tour events, starting with the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club from July 10-13. This will be followed by The Open Championship at Royal Portrush on July 17-20, a highly anticipated event for McIlroy, given his roots in Northern Ireland.
Later in the summer, McIlroy is set to compete in the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind (August 7-10), the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club (August 14-17), and the Tour Championship at East Lake (August 21-24).
September will see McIlroy participating in the Irish Open at K Club and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. He is also confirmed to return to the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club in October. The year will conclude with the Australian Open at Kingston Heath in December.
Away from the greens, McIlroy has shown a keen interest in football, particularly Manchester United. With the Europa League final taking place in Bilbao, Spain, McIlroy made a special trip to watch Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur. Given his busy schedule, McIlroy was able to attend the final due to not competing in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
In a show of support for his team, McIlroy and his caddie, Harry Diamond, traveled from the United States of America to watch the final. McIlroy has met with the United squad on several occasions in the past, and there were rumours of a potential meeting before or after the final.
Manchester United are considered marginal favourites to win the Europa League final, and McIlroy is hopeful for a victory. If United emerge victorious, it would be a memorable end to a successful year for McIlroy, both on and off the golf course.
Before returning to the golf course, McIlroy is expected to compete at the Memorial Tournament next week. Following this, he will play the RBC Canadian Open and then the US Open at Oakmont Country Club.
McIlroy's trophy-laden year began with his victory at the Masters, and he was invited to bring his trophy to Manchester United's home stadium, Old Trafford. In 2014, McIlroy paraded The Open Championship trophy around Old Trafford, and it seems likely that he will do the same with his Masters trophy soon.
Manchester United expressed a desire to have McIlroy show his trophy at Old Trafford, and it remains to be seen whether this will happen after his upcoming tournaments. With McIlroy's busy schedule, it promises to be an exciting few months for both golf and football fans alike.
Sports enthusiast Rory McIlroy, who recently completed the career Grand Slam in golf, is scheduled to compete in several key PGA and DP World Tour events this year. Before returning to golf, McIlroy is expected to compete at the Memorial Tournament, a testament to his dedication to both sports, particularly Manchester United, for whom he has shown keen interest.
