Golf professional Lee Westwood enlists the help of Billy Foster to combat the potential relegation threat from LIV Golf.
In a surprising turn of events, Lee Westwood has reunited with his former caddie Billy Foster for the final two individual events of the LIV Golf season. The duo, who had a successful partnership for nine years, during which Westwood rose to World No.1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, will make their debut at the LIV Golf event in Chicago at Bolingbrook Golf Club.
The decision to reunite comes as the stakes are high for Westwood and other LIV Golf players, with enhanced and enforced relegation being key in LIV Golf's fresh bid for OWGR points. For the 2025 LIV Golf season, players finishing 49th or lower in the points standings after the final regular-season event (LIV Golf Indianapolis) are relegated from the league and must re-qualify by winning the International Series crown or through LIV Golf promotions to return the following season.
This relegation rule applies to all players, including team captains—there is no longer any exemption or special treatment for captains finishing in the Drop Zone (49th or lower) as was allowed in previous seasons via a "business case" appeal. This rule change reflects LIV Golf’s aim to be taken more seriously by the Official World Golf Ranking and to ensure league member retention is strictly performance-based.
As a result, all three Majesticks co-captains, including Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood, are at risk of relegation. Westwood currently finds himself in 46th place in the LIV Golf individual standings, one place below Stenson who is in 47th place. Ian Poulter, who ranks 51st in the standings, is in the most danger of relegation.
Westwood, who usually has his wife Helen Storey as his caddie, and Foster, who previously worked for Matt Fitzpatrick but is now caddying for Collin Morikawa, will be looking to turn their partnership magic on once more to secure their spots in the league for the 2026 season. The Majesticks, Westwood's team, announced their reunion on social media, with Foster expressing his excitement about his return to Westwood on Instagram.
The LIV Golf events that Westwood and Foster will be participating in are in Chicago and Indianapolis. Westwood won 13 times with Foster on the bag, and finished in the top three in eight Majors during their time together. Bubba Watson, who finished in the drop zone last year, may not have a safety net to retain his spot in the league this time around, adding to the pressure on all players to perform.
