Golf player Charley Hull withdraws from the PIF London Championship following an unexpected ankle injury sustained in the club parking lot.
Charley Hull Forced to Withdraw from PIF London Championship Due to Injury
Charley Hull, the British golfer currently ranked World No. 10, has been forced to withdraw from the PIF London Championship due to a freak injury sustained just before the event.
The PIF London Championship, part of the PIF Global Series on the Ladies European Tour, is aimed at accelerating the growth of women's golf on a global scale. This year, it is taking place at the Centurion Club for the fifth season and carries a prize fund of $2 million.
Hull's unfortunate accident occurred in the Centurion Club parking lot, where she tripped over a kerb, hearing a "pop" and fearing it was broken. The injury required a precautionary MRI scan. Despite initial hopes of competing, Hull's doctors advised her to withdraw from the tournament to allow her ankle sufficient time to heal.
This latest injury is just one in a series of health disruptions that Hull has faced in recent years. In 2025, she experienced a series of health issues, including a bout of virus-related symptoms at the July 2025 Amundi Evian Championship, where she collapsed twice and required a stretcher. Around the same time, she also suffered a back strain at the Irish Women's Open.
Hull's injury history has significantly impacted her golf career, with multiple health setbacks causing withdrawals from key tournaments and raising concerns about her ongoing playing condition. However, she showed resilience by finishing tied-second at the AIG Women’s Open in 2025 despite these setbacks.
Historically, Hull has dealt with injury challenges as well. In 2017, she suffered a recurrence of a wrist injury which hindered her performance throughout that season and prevented top-10 finishes in majors.
Despite these injuries, Hull has had a strong career with multiple titles on both the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour, including a high world ranking of eighth and several runner-up finishes in majors.
Before her injury, Hull was excited for the competition and had planned a long practice session with her coach. Her father, who has always been supportive of her golfing career, bought her a new set of golf clubs the next day to help her recover and prepare for her next tournament.
Hull's father, who has a history of getting nervous watching her play golf, was disappointed by his daughter's injury but remains optimistic about her future. He never pushed her when she was younger and only told her off once during her golfing career.
As of August 2025, Hull remains a strong competitor when fit, and fans are eagerly awaiting her return to the golf course.
