In a significant move for the world of golf, Tiger Woods has been appointed as the chairman of a new committee called the Future Competition Committee by the PGA Tour's newly appointed CEO, Brian Rolapp. The committee's primary goal is to reshape golf's competitive landscape in the United States, with a focus on designing the best professional golf competitive model in the world.

The committee, which also includes golfing greats like Patrick Cantlay and Adam Scott, aims to bring about significant change, not incremental change. This comes at a time when the PGA Tour has rejected various concession requests made by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and key figures such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka play under the LIV banner and are absent from the PGA Tour.

Interestingly, 70% of fans surveyed at the Players Championship expressed a desire for unification with LIV. However, Rolapp has not held discussions with the PIF, and his primary focus remains on strengthening the PGA Tour.

Scottie Scheffler, the dominant figure in golf as the world No 1, has been credited by Rolapp as having the best collection of golfers on the PGA Tour. Scheffler, who has won five times in 2025, including at two Majors, was strongly impacted by playing with Tiger Woods at the 2020 Masters. Despite this, Scheffler has dismissed comparisons with Tiger Woods.

The committee's focus is on a holistic relook of how they compete, including the regular season, postseason, and off-season. Rolapp echoed the desire for unification in June, but seemed to backtrack when pressed on the topic.

As the committee embarks on this ambitious mission, golf fans and players alike will be eagerly awaiting the changes that are to come. The future of professional golf in the United States is undoubtedly an exciting prospect.
