Golf Betting Strategies after the Cut: Revised Odds and Predictions for the US Open
Heading into the weekend at the 125th US Open, Oakmont Country Club hasn't been a snooze fest as the leaders have barely eked out par. The course is drying out, firming up, but forecasted rain and storms coming in over the weekend will likely soften it up.
Sam Burns is the man to beat right now, leading the pack as he chases his first major title. Despite a two-over-par 72 in his first round, he produced a five-under 65 on Friday, jumping to three-under. One shot behind, J.J. Spaun, who led after the first round with a four-under 66, has moved to two-under with a two-over 72. Viktor Hovland, sitting at three-under, is hot on their heels.
Several big names are within striking distance, with the likes of five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton, and Jason Day all at three-over. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and two-time Major winner Collin Morikawa are seven shots back, while Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Jon Rahm are struggling, with McIlroy and Schauffele making their way into the weekend but eight strokes off the lead at six-over.
Putting Your Money on the Green
The Golf Monthly team has weighed in on who they're backing for the weekend:
Winner: Viktor Hovland (+550)
Hovland is the golfer to watch according to the team. As we enter the mental grind and battle, they question how other players will cope, while Hovland, a proven elite player, seems to be in control of his game right now. For them, he's the favorite to win come Sunday evening.
One To Watch: Xander Schauffele (+11000)
Schauffele didn't have the best Friday but his US Open record is solid, having never finished worse than a T14th. The two-time Major winner will be able to handle the fight of the weekend and will slowly work his way up inside the top-10 or better.
Winner: Jon Rahm (+2500)
Although Rahm is seven strokes behind Burns, he was never ahead until the 72nd hole when he won his maiden US Open title in 2021. With rain predicted and the course set to soften, Rahm could potentially go on a charge during moving day.
One To Watch: Tyrrell Hatton (+4000)
I predicted that Hatton would win a Major in 2025, and with his excellent all-round game and solid chipping and putting, he's in a great position to do just that provided he can keep his emotions in check. Despite Oakmont's challenges, Hatton can go flag-hunting over the final two days.
Winner: Sam Burns (+330)
Burns looked to have the tournament under control, but the team has switched their backing to him mid-way through the second round. A 65 around Oakmont highlights the quality of his game right now. They believe Burns won't let this opportunity slip and will continue to contend come Sunday.
One To Watch: Thomas Detry (+6500)
The bookies have Detry priced at over +6000 to win from a position of five strokes back. With solid short-game and easy-to-hit fairways, the Belgian is likely to finish inside the top-10. So, let's put our money on it! Right?

In the world of sports-betting, Golf Monthly's experts have identified Sam Burns (+330) as the likely winner at the US Open, given his impressive performance at Oakmont Country Club thus far. One player to watch for an unexpected rise is Thomas Detry (+6500), who, despite being five strokes back, could potentially finish inside the top-10 due to his solid short-game and manageable fairways.
