Golden Knights sign Belarusian goalie Pavel Maisevich to three-year deal
The Vegas Golden Knights have secured a new prospect after signing 20-year-old Belarusian goaltender Pavel Maisevich. The young netminder, drafted in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, has agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with the franchise. His arrival adds depth to a team that claimed its first Stanley Cup title just last year.
Maisevich was selected 83rd overall by the Golden Knights in June. Before joining the organisation, he spent last season in Russia, playing 10 games for SKA-Neva in the VHL. There, he recorded a .917 save percentage, showcasing his potential between the pipes.
His move to North America follows the mutual termination of his KHL contract with SKA St. Petersburg. The decision allowed him to pursue an NHL opportunity, making him the 19th Belarusian player in league history since 1992. Currently, seven Belarusians are active in the NHL this season. The Golden Knights, founded in 2017, have quickly established themselves as a competitive force. They reached the Stanley Cup Final in their debut season but fell to the Washington Capitals. Last year, however, the team captured its first championship, solidifying its place among the league's elite.
Maisevich's three-year deal marks the beginning of his NHL journey. If he makes the roster, he will join a growing list of Belarusian players in the league. The Golden Knights, fresh off a title win, continue to build for future success with young talent like him.
