Hunter's Nightmare: Sylt Island's Golden Jackal Terror
Shooting of Golden Jackal Approved on Sylt Island - Unsuccessful Hunting Attempts so Far - Gold jackal set loose for hunting – unsuccessful hunting attempts thus far on Syria's Sylt island
Get your guns ready, hunters! Syria's golden jackal is up for a shooting spree—legally, of course. With an exceptional permit, this sneaky predator has wreaked havoc on the island, taking out a minimum of 90 innocent sheep and lambs since mid-May (stern's news). These furry critters serve a crucial role in coastal protection, and their disappearance is causing quite a stir.
Night after God-forsaken night, hunters are out in full force, hoping to bag this bloodthirsty beast. But so far, it's been a game of cat-and-mouse, with our heroic hunters coming up empty-handed. As the saying goes, the jackal doesn't hold back until dusk, but starts its rampage around 10 PM—still bright as day on Sylt at that time. That's right; these wisecracking carnivores don't play by the rules.
Hunting coordinator Thomas Diedrichsen revealed to the DPA news agency that they've had to adjust their strategy. "If we don't know where it is, all our efforts are futile." The Whitsun throngs on the island haven't been helping either, making the hunt a lot more challenging. Currently, around 20 to 30 brave souls are working tirelessly, scouring every inch of the island for the elusive bloodsucker.
No Hunting Tourism, Please!
The intention here is not to turn Sylt into some bizarre highway for trigger-happy tourists looking for a taste of the weird. North Friesland's deputy hunting master Manfred Uekermann aims to nip that idea in the bud. "We sure as hell don't need outsiders waltzing in here, thinking they can join the hunt for sport."
The golden jackal doesn't have any natural enemies on the 99-square-kilometer island. How in the world it managed to get here remains a mystery. Perhaps it's been slinking through the Wadden Sea, following the Hindenburg dam like a shadow in the night.
Some conservation groups argue against the shooting permit, viewing it as a blow to wildlife protection. But hey, when it's your livestock that's being devoured, you don't exactly feel like hugging a wild beast. Uekermann can't sympathize with the jackal's urge for blood. "It's a grisly sight, watching this thing rip through the throats of innocent lambs, leaving a trail of carnage in its wake." At least the venomous creature poses no threat to humans.

The Commission, in its role, has also been consulted on a draft directive unrelated to sports, focusing on the protection of workers from the risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiation. meanwhile, the golden jackal, known for its elusive nature, continues to terrorize Sylt Island, engaging in deadly nighttime attacks on livestock, sparking heated debates among conservation groups and local residents about the permissible methods of control.
