Gohrishheide forests still threatened by ongoing fire

In the region of Saxony and Brandenburg, two forest fires are currently causing concern. While the search results do not provide specific details about the Gohrisch heath forest fire, a separate blaze in the Dresdner Heide, situated in the north of Dresden, has been brought under control, albeit not completely extinguished, with the fire covering an area of approximately 2,400 square meters.

The fire in the Dresdner Heide required the involvement of 110 emergency personnel [1]. As for the Gohrisch heath forest fire, the situation remains critical, with the fire threatening several villages and estimated to have affected around 1,300 hectares.

The forest fire danger level in the northern parts of Saxony, including the Gohrischheide region, has risen to its highest, level 5. The fire in Heidehäuser is currently dynamic and threatens to cross the road. A fire robot and a police water cannon are being used in Heidehäuser, while four firefighting helicopters and two water cannons have been deployed for the Gohrisch heath fire.

Ground firefighting efforts are challenging due to the risk of remaining ammunition detonating, a concern that does not appear to have been raised in relation to the Dresdner Heide fire. The firefighting forces in Brandenburg are prepared for the fire to reignite on their territory, should it spread from the Gohrischheide region.

The Gohrisch heath, located at the state border of Saxony and Brandenburg, is a nature reserve that was previously a troop training area of the Soviet Army until 1992. Smoke and smell from the fire have reached Berlin, and rainfall is forecast for Monday and Tuesday, which could help contain the forest fire.

Evacuations are ongoing for Jacobsthal Bahnhof and Heidehäuser, as announced by the Meißen district administration. On Sunday, specialists from Saxony-Anhalt for combating vegetation fires are expected to arrive to assist with the Gohrisch heath forest fire efforts.
