Lonsdale Cup Stakes at York's Ebor Meeting to Feature Promising Contenders

The Weatherbys Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2), set to take place at York on August 22, 2025, promises an exciting race with a strong lineup of runners. The confirmed competitors include Trawlerman (IRE), Sweet William (IRE), Al Nayyir, Al Qareem (IRE), Shackleton (IRE), Dubai Future, and Devil's Advocate, another Godolphin-owned horse.

Trawlerman, a seven-year-old horse, has been in excellent form recently, having won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, positioning him as a strong contender for the Lonsdale Stakes. He will be ridden by Benoit de la Sayette in the race. Devil's Advocate, another promising runner, will provide Trawlman with stiff competition.

Other notable runners include Sweet William (IRE) and Al Nayyir, both of whom have impressive racing resumes. The race will be contested over a mile on the Al Bahathri Polytrack, with a prize of £141,775 for the winner.

In other news, Trawlman was put through a mile exercise at York with Oisin Murphy as the jockey. Ombudsman, another horse that won at Royal Ascot, was also seen at York, participating in an exercise with William Buick.
