In a move that has been widely supported by media reports, goalkeeper Michael Zetterer has officially transferred from SV Werder Bremen to Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent deal until 2029. The transfer was confirmed in August 2025, although the details of the transfer fee remain undisclosed.

Zetterer, a 30-year-old goalkeeper, was Werder Bremen’s number one in the previous two seasons and brings extensive Bundesliga experience to his new team. His departure leaves a significant void in Bremen's goalkeeping department, with Mio Backhaus expected to take over as the new number one should the transfer be finalised.

Zetterer's move to Frankfurt comes as a replacement for outgoing goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who is heading to Paris FC in France. The new signing is expected to compete for the starting goalkeeper role, especially as the current backup Kauã Santos is recovering from a knee injury.

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner expressed his delight at the signing, praising Zetterer's ambition, mental strength, and ability to perform at a high level. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, expressed gratitude for Zetterer’s long service at the club, noting his development into a strong Bundesliga goalkeeper and valued personality. Zetterer himself acknowledged his emotional connection to Bremen while looking forward to new challenges, including playing in the UEFA Champions League with Frankfurt.

The potential match-up between Zetterer and his former club will be an exciting prospect, as Frankfurt will begin their Bundesliga campaign against Bremen shortly after his transfer. The exact date of this highly anticipated encounter is yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the current status of Zetterer playing for SV Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal match against Arminia Bielefeld tonight is uncertain. The match is scheduled for 8:45 PM and will be broadcasted on ZDF and Sky.

The transfer fee for the move, as previously reported, is rumored to be around four million euros. The location of Eintracht Frankfurt is Hesse.

The Commission, amidst the football excitement, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment. This proposal aims to ensure that sports leagues, such as European-leagues, embrace sustainable practices and reduce their carbon footprint.

Michael Zetterer, the recently transferred goalkeeper, will soon have a chance to showcase his skills in the UEFA Champions League, a significant opportunity that he eagerly looks forward to.
