Gloria Gaynor, the iconic singer known for hits like "I Will Survive" and "I Am What I Am," is set to receive an award from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on December 7. The ceremony, to be held at the opera house, will honour Gaynor for her significant artistic achievements.

Born in New Jersey in 1943, Gaynor has had a remarkable career spanning over five decades. Her fame soared in the 70s and 80s, and her impact on the music industry continues to resonate today.

Despite her successful career, Gaynor's personal life has undergone significant changes. She was married to her manager, Linwood Simon, from 1979 to 2005. The marriage, often described as a "fairytale for about 20 years," ended due to various issues, including Simon's controlling behaviour, alleged infidelity, drug addiction, and differing views on having children.

Since the divorce, Gaynor has chosen to focus on her career and personal growth, including her faith. She values her faith deeply and attributes her strength to it, as she once said, "I Don't Know Where I'd Be Without My Faith." Gaynor is open to whatever God has in store for her in terms of love, but feels that something may come, acknowledging that God likes to surprise us.

Currently, Gaynor is living with a friend in a shared apartment, another divorcee. She spends her Sundays attending church or watching an online sermon if she's not home. When they're not out, they cook together and spend the day together.

Gaynor's niece once referred to them as the 'Golden Girls,' a testament to their close bond. Despite the private nature of her love life, it appears that Gaynor's current status is single, with no new marriage or committed partner publicly reported following her 2005 divorce.

The Kennedy Center, a major cultural institution in Washington, is honoring Gaynor for her artistic achievements. This recognition serves as a testament to her enduring impact on the music industry and her resilience in the face of personal challenges.
