Globally acclaimed pole vault record-holder, Duplantis clears 6.29 meters [over 20 feet]
Swedish Pole Vaulter Armand Duplantis Breaks World Record at Budapest Meeting
Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, the celebrated Swedish pole vaulter, has once again made history by setting a new world record at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial meet in Budapest on August 12, 2025.
At the age of 25, Duplantis cleared an impressive 6.29 meters (20 ft 7+1⁄2 in), surpassing his previous world record by a mere 1 centimeter. This is the 13th time Duplantis has broken the pole vault world record in his illustrious career.
Duplantis's record-breaking jump took place at the same venue where he won the world championship two years ago. Despite starting with a failed attempt at 5.62 meters, he mastered the world record height on his second attempt.
Meanwhile, in the hammer throw event, Olympic champion Bence Halasz from Hungary took the top spot with a strong throw of 83.18 meters. Canadian athlete Ethan Katzberg finished second with a throw of 81.88 meters, having won both the Olympic and world championship titles in this event.
German athlete Simon Batz won the long jump event with a jump of 8.07 meters, while Greek long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou finished second.
The meeting, which was well-attended, is a significant precursor to the upcoming World Athletics Championships, set to take place in Tokyo in a month.
Duplantis, known for breaking records by small increments to maintain his dominance, has solidified his status as a once-in-a-generation talent in athletics. His consistent world record-breaking and Olympic success have positioned him as arguably the greatest pole vaulter ever.
