The Allerweltshus, a well-respected intercultural centre in Ehrenfeld, has moved into a new home, previously an old school building on Geisselstraße, which was formerly used as refugee accommodation. This shift came after the Allerweltshaus vacated its long-standing location on Körnerstraße in 2022.
Mayor Henriette Reker has personally advocated for a new location in Ehrenfeld for the Allerweltshaus, and her efforts have borne fruit, as the centre has secured a permanent location through an hereditary lease contract with the city for the next eighty years.
However, the Allerweltshaus is now facing a significant challenge: the need for 100,000 euros to fund necessary renovations and improvements. A donation campaign is currently running to raise these funds and will continue until July 9.
The Allerweltshaus association advocates for anti-racism, climate justice, social justice, and intercultural exchange on an equal footing. It serves as a place for migrant self-organization, offering social counseling, refugee counseling, language courses, and educational work. Around thirty initiatives are active within the Allerweltshaus, with the majority of the staff working on a voluntary basis.
Despite the solidarity for the Allerweltshaus being great, it has not been fully achieved yet. The centre employs around half a dozen people, but the costs of running the Allerweltshaus amount to around 1 million euros. The renovations and improvements are essential to ensure the centre can continue its valuable work in the years to come.
