Global consequences may ensue unabated if Israel's aggressive actions continue unchallenged, according to Fidan's warning.

At the 17th BRICS Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan strongly criticised Israel's military offensive in Gaza, labelling it as a genocide that has reversed decades of regional development and posed a severe threat to global peace and security.

In a session titled "Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Issues and Artificial Intelligence," Fidan warned that if Israel's aggression and expansionism are not controlled, the consequences will be felt on a global scale. He argued that this situation constitutes a serious crisis for the legitimacy of international institutions responsible for peace and security, undermining the foundations of multilateralism.

Fidan emphasised that the Palestinian tragedy is central to current multilateral discussions, and retreating from multilateralism is unacceptable, as it has been a crucial driver of progress affecting various aspects of daily life from civil aviation to public health and trade systems.

Türkiye is actively intensifying efforts to support peaceful resolutions and de-escalation in the region, expressing readiness to fully back lasting peace. Fidan also linked the broader global context, mentioning that globalization has deepened interdependencies, making value chains fragile, and underscored the importance of maintaining a fair and rules-based international trade system in the face of global challenges.

In summary, Fidan's stance is critical of Israel's Gaza offensive, viewing it as a threat not only to regional stability but also to global peace, security, and the effectiveness of multilateral institutions, while advocating for peaceful solutions and sustained multilateral cooperation. Furthermore, Fidan highlighted artificial intelligence governance as a critical priority and stressed the need for growth, employment, and free trade for development.

In addition, Fidan characterized Israel's Gaza offensive as a threat to the multilateral order, and expressed Ankara's readiness to fully support lasting peace in the region. Türkiye has positioned itself as a peace mediator in regional conflicts.
