Glarus Doubles the Holiday Magic With Two Beloved December Traditions

Glarus is preparing for a festive December in 2025, with two beloved traditions returning on the same day. The St. Nicholas Parade will light up the streets on December 5, while the Bettelbrauch custom sees children ‘begging’ for treats with bells and horns. Both events promise colour, music, and community spirit in the heart of the town.

The St. Nicholas Parade kicks off at 6:30 PM on December 5, starting and finishing at the Güterschuppen. Samichlaus, Schmutzli, and donkeys will lead the procession, accompanied by schoolchildren carrying handmade lanterns. The parade will glow with large and small lanterns, fiery torches, and the ringing of Trychlen, traditional Swiss cowbells.

The St. Nicholas Parade and Bettelbrauch will fill Glarus with light, sound, and tradition on December 5, 2025. The Christmas Market’s return promises more stalls and a warm atmosphere, all organised by local volunteers and city committees. Both events highlight the town’s commitment to keeping its festive customs alive for residents and visitors alike.
