Borussia Mönchengladbach's Training with a Smaller Crew

The pitch was wide open for a change!

Swinging into action after their dominant 4-0 victory over Wolfsburg on Friday, Gladbach's training ground echoed with a different tune on Tuesday morning. With only eleven outfield players in attendance, the space on the pitch was as vast as the Sahara desert. Manu Koné, on the standby for the French U21 team, was part of the training squad, but yet to be officially summoned.

Facing the heat of absenteeism were Jonas Omlin, Ko Itakura, and 19-year-old Yvandro Sanches, who were all undergoing individual rehabilitation. The list of gladiators also included nine Gladbach stars who had embarked on international assignments with their national teams.

Gone with the Gladiators

Luca Netz (20) and Rocco Reitz (21), both up-and-coming stars, were tapped by U21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo for the European Championship qualifiers against Estonia (17th November) in Paderborn and Poland (21st November) in Essen.

Joe Scally (20), a vital cog in the Gladbach machine, received an invitation from US coach Gregg Berhalter (50) for two games in the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Nations League against Trinidad and Tobago. The first leg scheduled for 16th November, the second on 20th November.

Nico Elvedi (27), still a core force within the Gladbach set-up, was called up once more by Swiss team manager Murat Yakin for the matches against Israel (15th November), Kosovo (18th November), and Romania (21st November).

Maximilian Wöber (25), another pillar of the Gladbach defense, was selected by Austria team manager Ralf Rangnick for the last European Championship qualifier against Estonia (16th November) and the friendly international match against Germany (21st November).

Tomas Cvancara (23) was summoned by the Czech national coach Jaroslav Šilhavy for the matches against Poland (17th November) and Moldova (20th November).

Grant-Leon Ranos (19) was invited by Armenia for the European Championship qualifiers against Wales (18th November) and in Croatia (21st November).

Fabio Chiarodia (18) was due to don Gladbach’s colors with Italy’s U19 team against Liechtenstein (15th November), Switzerland (18th November), and hosts Sweden (21st November).

Simon Walde (18) would represent the German U19 team in two test matches against Norway (16th November) and 19th November).

While Gladbach was down a few crucial members due to international duty and injuries, the diligent Borussia Mönchengladbach managed to train in a reduced capacity in Düsseldorf on Tuesday morning.
