The Clock Ticks as Chelsea and Dortmund squabble over young talent, Jaime Gittens' future hangs in the balance at Borussia Dortmund. The winger is currently representing the BVB at the Club World Cup, but all eyes are on the cards that will be shuffled post-tournament. That's according to sporting director Sebastian Kehl, who seems to be carefully tipping his hat.
It appears the million-euro offer to transfer Gittens to FC Chelsea has been met with a firm "no" by BVB. During a media round, Kehl stated that discussions ended due to differing valuations of the player, with the English side offering around €55 million.
In place of a summer vacation on English soil, the 20-year-old Gittens is geared up for the Club World Cup, taking place in the USA from June 14 through July 13. Kehl expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Jaime definitely boosts our team. We're happy to have him with us."
Rumors swirl that Gittens, having left Manchester City's youth academy for Dortmund in 2020, may still make his way back to England, possibly even post-Club World Cup. However, both parties remain tight-lipped about specifics.
"Regrettably, one must deal goods..."
Kehl hinted at potential future negotiations, saying, "We've got good communication and we'll see what unfolds. More transfers could happen in the summer, but we'll need transfer income for that." In essence, he implies that players like Gittens, whose contract extends to 2028 and whom the BVB reportedly values at 65 million euros, may be put on the auction block.
Despite uncertainty, Kehl remains optimistic about Gittens' market value, stating, "I anticipate it won't tumble." Another point of intrigue lies in the negotiations surrounding loan player Carney Chukwuemeka's contract, set to expire on June 30. "We'll see if we can extend his stay until the end of the tournament," Kehl announced, suggesting further discussions are on the horizon.
