In the 2024-25 school year, a remarkable run of success was witnessed across various sports teams in Kentucky. Let's take a closer look at some of the standout performances.

Parke, a Class 1A athlete, made history by winning five gold medals. She clinched victories in the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track events during the school year. At the state outdoor track meet, Parke set new Class 1A records in the 800 and 1600 runs. Furthermore, she became the first Beechwood girl to win a state cross country championship meet.

Meanwhile, in the world of soccer, both the Brossart boys and girls teams had reasons to celebrate. The boys qualified for the All 'A' Classic boys state tournament, while the girls team, led by coach Andy Smith, who is aiming to defend their title in the All 'A' Classic state tournament, defeated Beechwood in the sectional round of the small school playoffs. The Brossart vs. Beechwood game was a thriller, with the score tied 2-2 after two halves before going to a penalty kick shootout. Macy Smith, a freshman on the Brossart girls soccer team, scored the winning goal in the shootout.

Individual performances were also noteworthy. Rylee Fuller and Kiley Smith scored two goals each for the Brossart girls team, while Maddie Broering made crucial goalkeeping stops. In track and field, Van Laningham, a Class 3A athlete, won the 1600 run in both the indoor and outdoor state meets. This summer, he placed second in the 3000-meter run at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and sixth in the Nike Nationals Southeast qualifier. Van Laningham has also committed to join the University of Wisconsin men's cross country team.

Elsewhere, Jenna Kitchens, a senior volleyball player at Simon Kenton, broke the team record in career kills with 1,165 over five varsity seasons.

The University of Kentucky cross country team placed 17th in the Southeast Region last year, showcasing the state's strong athletic talent at the collegiate level as well.

As for the upcoming events, the first-round matches for the All 'A' Classic girls state tournament will be played on Friday, with the championship matches scheduled for Sunday. The Brossart girls soccer team, winners of the All 'A' Classic state tournament last year, will aim to defend their title.

In conclusion, the 2024-25 school year was a season of impressive achievements in Kentucky high school sports. These success stories serve as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of the athletes and teams involved.
