The Osnabrück region and Artland are set to strengthen their women's basketball scene with the formation of a new partnership between the OSC and Artland Dragons. This collaboration aims to promote and professionalise girls' and women's basketball in the region.
The new team, named "Junior Team Osnabrück/Artland", has secured a spot in the Bundesliga for the next season, which will take place in Hamburg. The team consists of 15 talented players, ready to make their mark in the league.
Marius Kröger, managing director of Artland Dragons, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that this cooperation is a significant step towards establishing themselves as a permanent force in the region. Sascha Bartsch, managing director of OSC, echoed these sentiments, explaining that both clubs share the same visions and are committed to promoting and professionalising women's basketball.
The Osnabrück region offers almost the only option for female basketball at the Bundesliga level in the northern part of the country. This new team aims to further expand women's basketball in the region, offering attractive playing conditions that can potentially attract more players to the sport.
The Junior Team Osnabrück/Artland will compete in the North West division in the WNBL, the highest German basketball league for female players under 18. The goal of the team is to build and maintain a youth concept over several years to enable players to make the leap to the professional Bundesliga in the long term.
As part of their season preparation, the team is currently undergoing team, individual, and athletic training.
