Gigantamax Pikachu returns to Pokémon GO—but without key rewards
Gigantamax Pikachu will return to Pokémon GO this weekend, but players have noticed a key difference from past events. Unlike previous Gigantamax boss appearances, no Special Research task has been announced to accompany the raid. The event runs this Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time at Power Spots across the game.
The electric rodent last appeared as a raid boss during Max Battle Day, held from March 31 to April 6, 2026. At that time, players could complete Special Research to earn Dynite Ore and other rewards. This season, however, the event announcement made no mention of such a task.
Some trainers have reacted with frustration, as the missing research means fewer free resources. Dynite Ore, in particular, allowed players to attempt a few raids without spending. Others, though, remain unfazed—they see little need to catch multiple Gigantamax Pikachu and don't mind the change. The absence of the research task isn't the only complaint. Criticism has grown over broader changes in the current season, with some players claiming the game's team is 'ruining everything' this time around. The lack of free rewards and useful counters for the raid boss has added to the dissatisfaction.
Gigantamax Pikachu raids will take place at Power Spots for three hours this Saturday. Without the usual Special Research, players must rely on their own resources to participate. The event highlights ongoing concerns about the game's direction and the availability of free rewards.
