Gifts for needy children Alexianer donate to "Smart Spoons"
For the third year running, employees at Alexianer Krefeld GmbH have taken part in the Christmas in a Shoebox campaign. They collected 117 gifts for children in need, aiming to bring a little holiday cheer to those facing hardship. The presents were officially handed over to the local charity Schlaue Löffel Krefeld this week.
The campaign encourages donors to fill shoeboxes with small gifts, helping children experience a sense of normalcy during the festive season. This year’s donations included toys, books, warm clothing, and handmade items, all carefully packed by staff at Alexianer Krefeld.
*Schlaue Löffel Krefeld* works with child welfare groups to support healthy eating, physical activity, and education for young people. The charity will distribute the gifts through partner organisations such as *Tafel Krefeld*, the Diakonie food bank, the *Neue Wege* integration association, and Caritas. Tanja Kirsch-Boy, representing *Schlaue Löffel Krefeld*, accepted the donations and thanked the team for their generosity. Dr. Kathrin Batzill, clinic director and co-organiser of the drive, was visibly moved by the high level of participation. She expressed hope that even more people would join in next year.
The 117 shoebox gifts will now be shared with children across Krefeld through local welfare networks. The initiative highlights ongoing community efforts to support families during the Christmas period. Organisers have already begun planning for an even bigger campaign in 2025.
