Gifhorn's Youth Conference tackles transport gaps and new funding for projects
The second Gifhorn District Youth Conference is set to take place on Friday, April 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Originally planned for March 6, the event was delayed for organisational reasons. This year's gathering will focus on key issues affecting young people in the region, including public transport and new youth-led initiatives.
The conference will be held at the Youth Meeting Center (JBG) in Gifhorn, located at Ludwig-Jahn-Straße 10. Organised by the Gifhorn District Youth Council and District Youth Services, the event welcomes drop-in attendees, though online registration is also available.
Public transport remains a major concern for young residents. Many report infrequent services, poor connections in rural villages, and a heavy reliance on parents for travel. The Greater Braunschweig Regional Association will join the discussions to address student transport and rural transit solutions. In addition to transport, the conference will highlight a new low-threshold grant programme. Funded by the Sparkassenstiftung Gifhorn-Wolfsburg for Culture and Social Affairs, it offers €100 to €1,000 for youth-led projects. Plans for a self-managed youth café in Torstraße, Gifhorn, will also be shared, alongside details of a youth concert as part of the *Unser Aller Festival*.
The event builds on last year's inaugural conference, though exact attendance figures from 2023 remain unclear. This year's programme aims to provide practical support and funding opportunities for young people in Gifhorn District. Organisers encourage participation from all interested youth, with or without prior registration.
