Gifhorn District invests €10M in education and infrastructure by 2027
Gifhorn District has launched a series of major projects over the past two years, covering education, infrastructure, and public safety. Under the leadership of District Administrative Director Philipp Raulfs, investments totalling over €10 million have been allocated to schools, transport, and emergency planning. Several initiatives are already underway, with more set to complete by 2027.
In September 2025, the district opened a new Competence Center at the Gifhorn I Vocational Schools. The €9.55 million facility primarily supports nursing and social pedagogy programmes, providing modern training spaces for students. That same month, the 10th Regional Health Conference took place in Gifhorn, bringing together healthcare professionals for a decade-running event.
Work on infrastructure has also advanced. A €800,000 bike path along the K 42 between the B 188 and Päse is nearing completion, with final touches expected within four weeks after the winter break. Meanwhile, ground was broken in December 2025 for a €4 million multipurpose area at the Sibylla-Merian-Gymnasium in Meinersen, due to finish in spring 2027. Climate and emergency measures have seen progress too. In March 2025, two hydrogen tanks were installed at the Ausbüttel Waste Management Center as part of an innovative energy storage system. The district is also drafting a blackout contingency plan to keep critical infrastructure running during long power cuts, with finalisation planned for 2026. Education and social initiatives remain a focus. Funding for the 'School of the Future' programme was extended by a year, running until the end of the 2026/2027 school term. Additionally, a situation and resource analysis under the federal 'Living Democracy!' programme is underway, with results to be shared in 2026.
The projects led by Philipp Raulfs reflect a broad push to upgrade Gifhorn’s facilities and services. With investments in vocational training, cycling routes, and emergency preparedness, the district aims to strengthen its infrastructure and community support. Further developments are scheduled to roll out through 2027.
