Giants fire Brian Daboll after 2-8 start to disastrous 2025 season

The New York Giants have parted ways with head coach Brian Daboll after a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears. This decision comes after a disappointing 2-8 start to the 2025 NFL season. Daboll, who led the Giants to the playoffs in his first season and won the 2022 NFL coach of the year award, leaves with a record of 20-40-1.

Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will take over as interim head coach. Kafka's promotion comes after the Giants' struggles this season, which include the departure of star running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. Barkley went on to win Super Bowl LIX with the Eagles. Quarterback Daniel Jones, the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL draft, also left for the Indianapolis Colts after six inconsistent seasons with the Giants.

Under Daboll, the Giants won their first postseason game in over a decade, defeating the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 in a 2022 wild-card matchup. Before joining the Giants in 2022, Daboll spent four years as the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator. The successor to Daboll has not been explicitly named yet.

The Giants will face the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium in their next game on Sunday. The team will be looking to turn their season around under interim coach Mike Kafka.
