Giants camp competition intensifies as Deonte Banks remains tight-lipped about crucial matters

Undrafted free agent Beaux Collins received a deep pass attempt from Russell Wilson, similar to Wilson's signature moon balls, in the middle of a hot Giants practice. However, this time, Wilson's throw fell short. Deonte Banks, who was defending Collins, was there to capitalize on the error.

Giants camp competition intensifies as Deonte Banks remains tight-lipped about crucial matters

In the world of NFL football, every player strives for improvement, and Deonte Banks is no exception. The Giants cornerback, entering his third season with the team, is currently working hard to elevate his game, with the help of former Saints player, Paulson Adebo, and new coaches Jeff Burris and Marquand Manuel.

Banks' journey has not been without challenges. His struggles seemed to occur more under Shane Bowen's coaching compared to Wink Martindale's. However, with the arrival of Burris and Manuel, Banks is receiving a fresh perspective and guidance from Daboll, who is teaching him what to do and demanding that he does it the right way.

Adebo, a shoo-in as the top cornerback, and Dru Phillips, who excelled as a rookie at the nickelback spot, are setting the bar high. Banks is in competition with fellow cornerback, Flott, for the second spot. As of Tuesday, Flott was primarily with the starters, and Banks was with the backups.

The 2023 season was a disastrous one for Banks, who showed flashes as a rookie but struggled during the subsequent year. One of his notable mistakes was during a practice session, where he committed pass interference on Beaux Collins, a play that was marred by his failure to turn his head to locate the ball. This incident, along with others, has highlighted the need for Banks to improve his ability to finish plays.

Banks acknowledged a lack of effort as a point of emphasis. He understands that the responsibility ultimately lies with him to perform on the field. If Banks does not show improvement, the Giants' secondary could have a significant hole. The team is counting on him to step up and live up to his first-round pick expectations.

Coach Brian Daboll emphasized the need for players to earn their playtime and perform at a high level. As the new season approaches, Banks is determined to prove his worth and secure a spot in the Giants' secondary. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining his future with the team.
