The National Football League (NFL) landscape is seeing some changes, with several teams preparing new stadiums and old ones undergoing renovations. One such venue, the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, is at the centre of discussions for a significant extension.
The New Orleans Saints are in talks for a further ten-year extension to their current deal with the state of Louisiana, aiming to take the Caesars Superdome deal until 2040. This comes after the stadium underwent a $560 million renovation before the 2024 season, following repairs costing over $250 million after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The Caesars Superdome, currently the fourth-oldest NFL stadium, opened in 1975 for $134 million and has since hosted a record-tying 11 Super Bowls, sharing the honour with Miami. The latest Super Bowl held at the Superdome was in 2024, where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs.
Meanwhile, the NFL has only confirmed venues for the next three Super Bowls. The 2027 event will be held at the $5.5 billion SoFi Stadium, followed by the 2028 Super Bowl in Atlanta. The 2029 Super Bowl is rumoured to find a home at the $2 billion Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
However, the NFL has a policy that a team cannot bid for a Super Bowl if they don't have a lease for the year in which they're requesting the event. This was the case for the Saints, who were unable to submit a bid for Super Bowl LXV due to ongoing lease talks with the state of Louisiana that have not been completed.
Elsewhere, the Buffalo Bills have their $2.2 billion New Highmark Stadium ready for visitors in 2026, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing their $1.4 billion 'stadium of the future' for 2028.
