Defense lawyer for Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein associate, vigorously fighting for her release from prison with aggressive strategies in place.

In a turn of events, Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2021 for her role in a scheme to sexually exploit and abuse young girls with Jeffrey Epstein, now has David Oscar Markus as her attorney. Markus, known for representing underdogs, has been actively involved in efforts to secure Maxwell's early release from her 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.

Markus, a criminal defense attorney, has made a name for himself by representing high-profile defendants, including politicians and athletes. In the past, he has successfully defended Tom Grady, a Naples, Florida-based attorney, who was accused of obstructing waters in the Florida Keys. Grady was represented by Markus when he was accused of violating the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 by filing applications for a dock and two boat lifts in January 2014.

Maxwell's appeal seeks a ruling on the non-prosecution agreement signed by Jeffrey Epstein in 2007. The agreement states that "the United States also agrees that it will not institute any criminal charges against any potential co-conspirators of Epstein." Maxwell argues that the agreement would have prevented federal prosecution in New York.

The U.S. government claimed federal permits were necessary for the dock and boat lifts, but a federal judge denied the Department of Justice's request to release grand jury material in Maxwell's sex trafficking case. Despite these challenges, Markus continues to advocate for Maxwell's release.

Markus' representation of Maxwell has been praised by other criminal defense attorneys. Mark Eiglarsh, for instance, called Markus "extremely brilliant, dedicated, passionate, zealous, experienced, and extremely humble."

Recently, Maxwell was transferred from a federal prison facility in Tallahassee, Florida, to a Federal Prison camp in Bryan, Texas. The reason for the transfer remains unknown. Maxwell was interviewed by the Department of Justice in late-July over a two-day period.

In late July 2022, Ghislaine Maxwell filed a brief with the Supreme Court asking justices to consider her appeal. The future of Maxwell's case remains uncertain, but with Markus as her attorney, she continues to fight for her early release.

In addition to Maxwell, Markus has represented other high-profile defendants. Andrew Gillum, a former Florida Democrat gubernatorial candidate, turned to Markus when he was facing corruption charges. Dwight Howard, a former NBA star, was investigated for alleged child abuse and was represented by Markus.

Markus enjoys representing the underdog and finds being a criminal defense lawyer rewarding. He has expressed that he enjoys the challenge of taking on difficult cases and fighting for justice for his clients. Despite the criticism and scrutiny that comes with representing high-profile defendants, Markus remains dedicated to his work and to his clients.
