Ghislaine Maxwell, ex-girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, relocated to a Texas prison camp
Ghislaine Maxwell Transferred to Lower Security Prison Camp in Texas
Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein who was convicted of helping him sexually abuse underage girls, has been transferred from a federal prison in Florida to the Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas.
The prison camp in Bryan houses inmates considered the lowest security risk by the Bureau of Prisons. Unlike her previous low-security prison that had double-fenced perimeters, the Federal Prison Camp Bryan offers dormitory housing, fewer staff-to-inmate ratios, and limited or no perimeter fencing.
Maxwell's transfer occurred on Friday, and the exact reason for her move has not been publicly disclosed by the Bureau of Prisons. The prison camp is located in Bryan, Texas.
Last week, Maxwell was interviewed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in a Florida courthouse. The interview was part of ongoing legal and political maneuvers, as Maxwell has been advocating for a pardon from the Trump administration and seeking to postpone a deposition with the House Oversight Committee.
Maxwell's lawyers have made it clear that they would require immunity from prosecution for Maxwell to participate in an interview with the House Oversight Committee. The House Oversight Committee has expressed a desire to speak with Maxwell, but the interview has not been scheduled yet.
Minimum-security federal prison camps were originally designed with low security to make operations easier and to allow inmates tasked with performing work at the prison to avoid repeatedly checking in and out of a main prison facility. Other inmates at the prison camp in Texas include Elizabeth Holmes (Theranos founder) and Jen Shah ("The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City").
Maxwell's case has been the subject of heightened public focus since an outcry over the Justice Department's statement last month saying that it would not be releasing any additional documents from the Epstein sex trafficking investigation. Administration officials have tried to cast themselves as promoting transparency in the case, including by requesting from courts the unsealing of grand jury transcripts.
