Ghana’s Bold Poultry Initiative Hands 10,000 Broilers to Local Farmers

A new poultry initiative called Nkoko Nkete Nkete has begun in Ghana’s Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality. The programme is distributing 10,000 broilers to 200 local beneficiaries, with each person receiving 50 birds. Officials describe it as a step toward private sector growth and job creation in the poultry industry.

The four-year scheme aims to boost poultry production and make chicken more affordable across Ghana. Beneficiaries will raise the birds to maturity within seven weeks for both personal consumption and sale.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture advised recipients to follow veterinary guidelines closely. Proper care is essential to prevent disease and ensure healthy growth. Meanwhile, Nana Asante Krobea, the farm manager, praised the government for involving private farmers in the programme. Charles Muganza, a farmer from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was responsible for rearing the initial batch of birds. The Municipal Chief Executive also acknowledged the efforts of veterinary officers and local poultry farmers in supporting the initiative’s launch.

The programme’s first phase has now reached 200 individuals, each tasked with raising 50 broilers. If successful, later stages could expand bird numbers further. The goal remains to increase poultry supply, lower costs, and strengthen the local poultry industry.
