Ghana pledges GH₵20 million to revitalize its struggling film industry
James Gardiner, Deputy CEO of Ghana's National Film Authority (NFA), has reaffirmed the organisation's dedication to expanding the country's film sector. Speaking recently, he acknowledged the challenges facing the industry but stressed that efforts to improve it remain a priority. A total of GH₵20 million has been set aside to support the film industry. The National Film Fund, a key part of this plan, will be rolled out soon to provide financial backing.
Gardiner highlighted the need for a more dynamic and profitable sector. He wants actors to have steady work and the industry to operate smoothly. His comments come as stakeholders push for better distribution networks, stronger institutional support, and greater investment. Despite the hurdles, Gardiner assured that progress is being made. He did not, however, provide specific details on how the funds will be distributed or when the National Film Fund will officially launch.
The GH₵20 million allocation marks a step toward strengthening Ghana's film industry. With the National Film Fund on the way, filmmakers and stakeholders are watching closely for further updates. The NFA's focus remains on creating a more sustainable and active sector for all involved.
