Getxo Circuit: UAE Team Emirates-XRG Takes Command, Isaac del Toro Wins Solo After Attack on Final Ascent
Isaac del Toro from UAE Team Emirates-XRG emerged victorious at the 2025 Circuito de Getxo cycling race, marking his eighth victory of the season. His teammate Juan Ayuso secured a close second place, creating a one-two finish for the team.
The 172.2km-long race saw a ten-rider breakaway at the start, with a trio of Simmons, Aular, and Bernard (Lidl-Trek) managing to create a new breakaway with just over 30km to go. However, UAE Team Emirates-XRG managed to catch them at the foot of the Alto de Pike with around 17km to go.
Del Toro launched his decisive attack on the final climb of the Alto de Pike and maintained his lead until the finish. Ayuso played a key role in the race, controlling the pace and bringing back breakaways. He then outsprinted rivals to support Del Toro’s victory.
The Lidl-Trek duo of Toms Skujiņš and Héctor Álvarez joined Ayuso and Alex Aranburu (Cofidis) on the descent, but cooperation was difficult due to Del Toro's presence in the group. Aranburu briefly kept Del Toro within reach, but was unable to maintain his effort and dropped back to Ayuso.
Del Toro completed the race in 3:59:10, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Ayuso, who narrowly beat Aranburu for second place. The race results, powered by FirstCycling, show Del Toro winning comfortably ahead of the chasing group.
Del Toro expressed pride in the team effort and noted the race was challenging due to heat and a high level of competition but enjoyable overall. The Circuito de Getxo victory adds to Del Toro's impressive season, as he continues to dominate the cycling world.
