Germany's women's ice hockey team has kicked off their Deutschland Cup campaign with a thrilling victory over France. The team, ranked eighth in the world, secured a 3–2 win in a penalty shootout, thanks to a decisive goal from Laura Kluge. This win sets the stage for their upcoming matches against Slovakia and Hungary, as they aim to qualify for the Winter Olympics.

The German team, led by head coach Jeff MacLeod, started their tournament strongly with goals from Emily Nix and Laura Kluge during regulation time. However, France fought back in the third period, scoring twice through Emma Nonnenmacher and Clara Rozier. The game went into a nail-biting shootout, where Germany emerged victorious.

Looking ahead, Germany will face Slovakia on Friday and conclude their group stage against Hungary on Saturday. MacLeod has nearly finalized the Olympic roster, with 17 of the 23 players named for the Deutschland Cup also featuring in this year's World Championship. This tournament serves as an opportunity for the team to compete for remaining roster spots for the Olympics, with the women's team aiming to make their first appearance since 2014.
