Germany’s winter safety alert: Tires, visibility and caution save lives

As winter approaches, Germany's road safety authority reminds drivers and pedestrians of crucial precautions to ensure safe travel. The weekend of November 15-16, 2025, brings varied weather conditions, with the south experiencing mild temperatures and rain, and the north remaining cool and cloudy. Pedestrians and drivers must adapt their behavior to these changing conditions.

Drivers are urged to complete their seasonal tire change by December 1. Winter tires are essential for grip and safety on wet, icy, or snowy roads. Additionally, reduce speed during precipitation and on slippery surfaces, as braking distances increase significantly. Maintain a safe following distance and drive predictably to avoid accidents.

Pedestrians should wear reflective elements and avoid using headphones for better visibility and hearing. Always ensure vehicles have stopped completely before crossing at designated crossings. Exercise caution when approaching pedestrian crossings, road curves, steep inclines, and areas prone to drifting snow. All passengers in vehicles must be secured with seat belts, and children must be in appropriate child restraint systems.

With winter weather approaching, it is crucial for both drivers and pedestrians to take necessary precautions. By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to safer roads and reduce the risk of accidents. Stay informed about weather conditions and adjust your behavior accordingly.
