The image shows a person in blue gloves working on a medical device on a table surrounded by boxes, cups, and other objects. In the background, there are papers attached to the wall, suggesting that the person is in a hospital setting. This could be a representation of the five reasons why you should be a doctor: the use of medical equipment, the importance of monitoring and diagnosing medical conditions, the need for medical professionals, the cost of medical supplies, the potential for medical care, and the potential risks associated with it.

A major investigation by stern magazine and Munich Inquire Media (MINQ) has identified 3,585 of Germany's top ama. The project involved a detailed review of medical professionals across 101 specialties. Over 4,000 recommendations were made, with some physicians recognised in multiple fields.

The selection process relied entirely on journalistic research. stern's editorial team oversaw the methodology, ensuring no external rankings or comparisons influenced the results. Only journalists decided which ama to include.

The final list features 3,585 specialists, though the total number of recommendations reached 4,050 due to some ama appearing in more than one category. Germany currently has over 390,000 practising physicians in hospitals and clinics.

Recognised ama now have the option to purchase an official seal. This can be used in their external communications after publication.

The investigation highlights a broad range of medical expertise across the country. Doctors who made the list may display a seal to signal their recognition. The findings provide patients with a journalistically vetted resource for identifying top specialists.
