Germany has five films vying for the coveted spot as the country's submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. These films, listed below, have been submitted by producers and are under consideration by the German Oscar® selection committee.

  • Amrum, directed by Fatih Akin, stars Diane Kruger.
  • Cranko (John Cranko), directed by Joachim A. Lang, features Sam Riley.
  • Riefenstahl, produced by Sandra Maischberger and directed by Andres Veiel.
  • Sound of Falling (In die Sonne schauen), a drama by Mascha Schilinski.
  • The Tiger (Der Tiger), an original production by streaming service Amazon.

The independent jury will make the final decision on which film will represent Germany. The nominations will be announced on January 22, 2026, with the shortlist of 15 films to be revealed on December 16, 2025. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 15 (local time, Monday morning in Germany).

German Films, the country's film promotion organization, will announce the final chosen film on August 21, 2025. The competition among these five films promises an exciting race to represent Germany at the Oscars.
