The High Sauerland region braces for harsh winter conditions as the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) issues an ice warning. The area has witnessed its first snowfall of the season, with more wintry weather expected in the coming days.
Temperatures across North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have plummeted, with the Kahler Asten peak recording a chilly -0.8°C (30.6°F). The DWD has warned of ice formation, as high temperatures are expected to remain in the single digits Celsius over the next few days.
Snow has already fallen at elevations between 600 to 700 meters (around 2,000 to 2,300 feet), and the region may see sleet or snow in the coming days. The first snowfall of the season has blanketed the Sauerland region, marking the start of winter.
