In the upcoming mayoral election on May 11, nine candidates are running to lead the city of Sindelfingen, known for its Mercedes-Benz plant and around 64,000 inhabitants. The incumbent mayor, Bernd Voehringer (CDU), has announced that he will not seek re-election after leading the city for 24 years.

Among the candidates is Cengiz Karakas, a technical employee who is also affiliated with the Christian Democrats. The CDU faction in the Sindelfingen city council has almost unanimously supported Markus Kleemann's candidacy, with Karakas being another contender. Kleemann has been leading the administration of Oberstenfeld, a nearby municipality, since 2015.

The Christian Democrats are the largest faction in the Sindelfingen city council with eleven seats. Lukas Rosengruen, supported by the six-member SPD faction, is another promising candidate. Rosengruen has been the mayor of Ehningen, a nearby municipality, since 2020.

The Greens, with seven seats, are the second-largest force in the city council and are open to cooperating with all candidates. However, they are not currently supporting any candidate.

One of the candidates is Norbert Weiss, a coach and mediator. Another is Friedhild "Fridi" Miller, a family helper who has run in over 100 mayoral elections as a perennial candidate.

The city of Sindelfingen's economic location is one of the campaign issues. Max Reinhardt, a 25-year-old Sindelfingen city councilor and lawyer, is another candidate in the mayoral election. Reinhardt has been working in corporate law at an economic law firm in Stuttgart since 2023.

For precise and current details on the mayoral candidates and their key issues, consulting the official Sindelfingen city website or recent local news sources would be necessary. Dr. Kibreab Habtemichael Gebereselassie, Head of International Affairs for Sindelfingen, has expertise in public administration, migration, human rights, and antidiscrimination, but there is no confirmation about his mayoral candidacy or platform.

As the election approaches, the spotlight will be on these candidates and their visions for Sindelfingen's future. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting race.
