In the ever-evolving landscape of geopolitics, Reem Alabali-Radovan takes the helm from Svenja Schulze, underscoring Germany's continued need for diverse collaborators worldwide. As the new Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, she stressed the importance of maintaining international alliances to tackle global challenges together.

Reem Alabali-Radovan, who previously served as State Minister in the Federal Chancellery, Commissioner for Migration, Refugees, and Integration, and, more recently, Commissioner for Anti-Racism, is now poised to combine development policy tasks from other departments under the BMZ.

Her commitments as Minister revolve around fair economic cooperation benefits, with a focus on intensifying "win-win partnership effects" in resource extraction and green hydrogen. Alabali-Radovan, born in Moscow with Iraqi Christian parents, is also deputy state chairwoman of the SPD in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Natalie Pawlik, an SPD politician, will now oversee the vacated roles of Commissioner for Migration, Refugees, Integration, and Anti-Racism. During coalition talks, the Union advocated for the abolition of the development aid ministry, but the SPD stood firm, ensuring its continuation.
