New Döner Hype? Tentacle on a Skewer Causes Stir - Germany’s New Culinary Craze: The €14 Octopus Döner Takes Over Karlsruhe

A unique twist on a classic street food is making waves in Germany. The 'octopus döner', a creation by Romanian chain Pescobar, is now available in Karlsruhe after successful launches in London and other cities. This seafood take on the traditional kebab is priced at €14 per serving.

Pescobar, founded by Romanian entrepreneur Paul Nicolau, has brought its innovative dish to Germany. The 'octopus döner' is made by marinating and grilling octopus on a spit, then slicing and seasoning it with lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, and aioli in flatbread. The company sources its octopus from Mauritania, Morocco, and Senegal.

The new German branch is strategically located next to a popular kebab shop in Karlsruhe. Despite the competitive location, Pescobar sells between 300 and 400 'octopus döner' daily, indicating a strong demand for this new offering. This success has led Pescobar to consider further expansion in Germany, with potential locations in cities like Berlin and Hamburg.

The 'octopus döner', priced at €14, is a test of the German market for Pescobar. With its unique blend of flavours and successful daily sales, this seafood kebab alternative is proving popular among Karlsruhe residents. As Pescobar continues to expand, it will be interesting to see how this innovative dish fares in other German cities.
