Germany's Government Lineup Finalized: Comprised of 18 Members - Germany's Government Squad Finishes at 18 Years Old

Well, here we are, folks! One day before the big Chancellor election, German politics is heating up as the future government team is all set and ready to roll. If everything goes smoothly in the election, the SPD, led by Vice Chancellor and party bigwig, Lars Klingbeil, will be stepping into the game with force.

This new government, a mix of conservative and social democratic policies, will consist of a total of 18 cabinet members, slightly larger than its precedent, the traffic light coalition. It's going to be quite the squad, with 10 men and 8 women all set to shake things up.

War veterans, Lars Klingbeil and Friedrich Merz, have inked the coalition agreement, titled "Responsibility for Germany", as the foundation for their working alliance. Merz, the eyecatcher, stated his desire to govern Germany powerfully, thoughtfully, and with a steady hand. Klingbeil, on the other hand, said it's all about making Germany shine.

As for the SPD, they're not letting up on the new blood flow. In fact, Klingbeil has promised to keep things fresh with a team packed with close associates, including some young turks like Reem Alabali-Radovan, who'll be taking on the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, and Verena Hubertz, the startup queen who will lead the Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Building.

Lars Klingbeil warns that this new government needs "real team play" more than ever - a nod to the rocky coalition journey that lies ahead. The CSU leader, Markus Söder, has called for full speed ahead, assuring unity in the face of challenges.

The new government will be older than its predecessor, with the average age increasing from 50.4 to 53.1 years. This is primarily due to the eleven unionists in the government, with Friedrich Merz leading the pack at 69. On the other hand, the SPD average is a cool 49.4 years.

With the addition of the revamped Digital Ministry, the government will have 18 cabinet members instead of the previous 17, a continuing trend in government size consolidation.

As for the SPD itself, it's time to shake things up a bit. The SPD parliamentary group leadership is due for a reshuffle, with Matthias Miersch set to take the helm as parliamentary group leader. Dirk Wiese, a more conservative figure from the Seeheimer Circle, will serve as the parliamentary manager. The new leadership will be elected on Wednesday morning.

The SPD's party leadership is also on the verge of a shakeup. The new party chairman will be elected at a party conference in June, with Lars Klingbeil eyeing the position but potential challengers still unclear.
