Easter Attracts Tourists to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern After Long Winter - Germany's Easter travel boom defies fuel costs and rising prices

Easter travel in Germany is looking busier than last year, with occupancy rates set to rise. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is preparing for a strong start to the holiday season, despite challenges from higher fuel costs. Hotels and restaurants across the country are reporting solid advance bookings, though prices have also climbed.

The German Hotel and Restaurant Association predicts occupancy levels of 60 to 65% over Easter. This marks a slight improvement from 2023, when figures were lower. Advance bookings currently stand at around 48%, with some accommodations already fully reserved.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has planned a packed Easter programme. Visitors can expect beach gallops, spectacles, and traditional Easter markets. However, nearly half of local businesses admit that rising fuel prices have affected booking behaviour. Prices for tourist services have gone up by an average of 3.9% compared to last year. Despite this, the region remains optimistic about the holiday season. No exact figures on tourist numbers or overnight stays have been released yet.

The Easter travel season is shaping up to be stronger than in 2023, with higher occupancy and a full schedule of events. Fuel costs and rising prices remain hurdles, but bookings suggest steady demand. The region's tourism sector is preparing for a busy but challenging holiday period.
